    Kazutoshi Sugiura, born in 1938 during the tumult of war, witnessed Japan's reconstruction after World War II. Uninterested in the subsequent industrial boom, Sugiura opted to study art at the public College for Art in Kyoto, graduating in 1963.

    His academic journey extended with graduate studies in art, during which he developed a keen interest in silk screen printing and nihonga - traditional Japanese painting.

    Sugiura's mastery of printing techniques garnered attention internationally, leading the International Graphic Art Society in New York to commission a set of silk screen prints from him.
